Chapter 1 - Mathematics as a Living Experience

Chapter 2 - Evaluating and Simplifying Algebraic Expressions

     This chapter discusses topics such as the order of operations, evaluating an algebraic expression, applications to geometry, positive exponents, using the distributive property and more.  Here is the List of Objectives.  This chapter covers pages 105 - 152.

 

Chapter 3 - Solving Equations and Inequalities

     Here we learn about the Addition and Multiplication Principles, how to combine the principles to solve equations, how to solve word problems, and solving inequalities using the Addition and Multiplication Principles.  Here is the List of Objectives for this chapter.  This chapter covers pages 153 - 248.

Chapter 4 - Exponents and Polynomials

     This chapter deals with positive, negative and zero exponents.  It talks about polynomials and how to add, subtract, multiply and divide them.  Here is the List of Objectives for this chapter.  This chapter covers pages 255 - 332.

 

Chapter 5 - Factoring

     Here we discuss factoring.  Specifically how to factor a polynomial, a trinomial, what the difference of squares means and we present a general strategy for factoring.  There are many examples and applications presented in this chapter for your overall understanding.  Here is the List of Objectives for this chapter.  This chapter covers pages 333 - 408.

 

Chapter 6 - Fractional Expressions

     We discuss algebraic fractions.  We go through the multiplication, division, sum and difference of working with algebraic fractions.  We also touch upon complex fractions, fractional equations and literal equations.  Here is the List of Objectives for this chapter.  This chapter covers pages 409 - 494.

Chapter 7 - Graphing

     The Cartesian Coordinate system is presented and then you learn how to graph straight lines, determine the slope of a line, write the equation of the line and finally graphing inequalities.  Here is the List of Objectives for this chapter.  This chapter covers pages 501 - 560.

 

Chapter 8 - Systems of Equations

     Here we look at systems of linear equations.  We learn how to solve such systems by the substitution method as well as the elimination method.  Several problems and applications are presented.  Here is the List of Objectives for this chapter.  This chapter covers pages 561 - 610.

 

Chapter 9 - Radicals

     Here we look at square roots and how to multiply, divide, add and subtract with them.  We also look at the Pythagorean Theorem.  Finally, we explore Radical Equations.  Here is the List of Objectives for this chapter.  This chapter covers pages 611 - 666.

Chapter 10 - Quadratic Equations

     Here we talk about the general form of a quadratic equation as well as how to solve them.  We address factoring to solve a quadratic equation, completing the square and the quadratic formula.  Several applied problems are addressed in this chapter.   Here is the List of Objectives for this chapter.  This chapter covers pages 673 - 720.
